Dr hab. Łukasz Łuczaj

Topic: My ethnobotanical pilgrimage in search of edible plants [PL]

Language:

During the lecture at the Festival:

In the lecture I will present snapshots of my trip to document the tradition of wild cuisine in various countries of the world. I will start with the story of how I started my adventure with wild cuisine, how I came to my knowledge. Then I will go to what is hidden in the Polish ethnographic archives, and I will end up with stories of wandering through 30 islands in Croatia and mountain villages in Asia.

I will talk about the tradition of eating wild vegetables in Poland, the ethnobotanical survey of Józef Rostafiński in 1883, the Polish Ethnographic Atlas, the forgotten manna, purgatory and caltrop. I will also tell you about the rich traditions of eating wild vegetables in Croatia and Georgia. Finally, it will also be about what the inhabitants of Chinese and Tibetan villages eat and how they prepare supplies from wild plants for the winter. If I have enough time, I will come to the Laos Fair, full of unknown mushrooms, bats and rats.
